Birmingham airport, the only passenger airport in the Birmingham and West Midlands region has direct flights to most destinations across Europe, North America and Asia. However civil aviation was ceased on the outbreak of the Second World War. The airport was requisitioned by the Air Ministry. Birmingham international is located 13km south east of the city's main central areas and is directly connected to the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) and Birmingham International Station.
