San Francisco Weather

The climate of San Francisco is usually mild. If you are planning a holiday, San Francisco weather is best between September and November. Being a coastal city, San Francisco temperatures rarely rise over 25º or fall below 5º. Winter months of November to March are also rainy months. Winters in San Francisco can be rainy and foggy.

Visitors would do well to be equipped for abrupt changes in the weather. Winter temperatures in San Francisco are quite temperate, with highs between 55ºF and 60ºF and lows in the range of 45ºF to 50ºF. Snow is extremely rare in San Francisco. Summers in San Francisco can be muggy and clammy. Temperatures during summer vary between 60ºF and 55ºF.

San Francisco Bay Area experiences variation in climate on account of elevation and coastal influence. Inland areas tend to experience cooler winters and hot summers. This is due to microclimates - while one part of the city is bright and shiny, the other can be clouded by fog. This phenomenon can be attributed in part to the sharp topography and maritime surroundings as well as the relatively cool waters of Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay.
